Imam Khomeini tabled support for Palestine

IRI Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani said on Tuesday that the late Imam Khomeini turned the issue of support for the Palestinian people into a political ideology. Larijani made the remarks in a meeting with members of Association of Iran-Palestine Friendship Group. "Iranian nation have a historical sense of solidarity with Palestine and Iranian religious leaders stood by the oppressed Palestinian people vis-à-vis the Zionist regime before triumph of the Islamic Revolution too," he said. Larijani recalled recommendation of the late Imam Khomeini for the Palestinian people to stand up to the occupying regime as the only way to attain their rights. He then said the Islamic Awakening movement in the region has driven the Zionist regime to isolation and created a capacity for the Palestinian people for not compromising with the occupying regime.

Sharqi said resistance against the Israeli occupation is the only way to liberate the Palestinian territories. "Currently destroying the occupying regime is no longer a dream. The Palestinian resistance movement has made great strides in this respect," Sharqi said. He said that compromising approaches towards the Zionist regime had dealt a blow to the Palestinian nation.
