Eastday-5.0-magnitude earthquake hits northern Iran

TEHRAN, Aug. 12 -- An earthquake measuring 5.0 on the Richter scale jolted northern Iran early Friday, the U.S. Geological Survey said. The quake, which occurred at 2:02 a.m. local time (2232 GMT Thursday)was centered 30 km northwest of Shahrud with a depth of 10.3 km, the USGS said.
