Salehi meets with Emir of Kuwait

IRI Foreign Minister Ali-Akbar Salehi says the Islamic Republic considers relations with neighbors important and believes that all problems and misunderstandings should be solved through dialogue among regional states. In a meeting with the Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah on Sunday, Salehi said meeting people’s rightful demands is the best way out of the ongoing regional problems, a Foreign Ministry statement said Sunday. He added that implementing plans which are dictated from outside the region and are against conditions, independence, and sovereignty of regional states, will only make the existing problems more complicated. Salehi emphasized that Iran pursues establishment of peace and stability and friendship in the Persian Gulf region. “The Muslim people of the region have peacefully coexisted in a brotherly manner for many years despite different religious views… the religious differences that we currently see are the result of interventions by ill-wishers and extra-regional states,” he added.

IRI Foreign Minister also extended President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s invitation to the Kuwaiti Emir to take part in the next Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) summit in Tehran. The Emir of Kuwait, for his part, indicated his interest in taking part in the NAM summit in Tehran, saying that the Islamic Republic is a suitable host for the meeting. “We all live in the same region and are undoubtedly affected by its problems. The solution to all these problems is interaction, cooperation and brotherly treatment of the existing problems,” he said.

The Kuwaiti Emir also expressed hope that the forthcoming talks between Iran and P5+1 - the US, Britain, China, Russia, and France plus Germany - in Iraq's capital city, Baghdad, will be constructive
