Close cooperation between the Islamic Republic of Iran and Egypt can boost the Islamic Ummah in the world, IRI Foreign Minister Ali-Akbar Salehi said Monday. He made the remarks in a meeting with some Egyptian youths who study Farsi in Iran. “Iran-Egypt ties have roots in ancient times," Salehi said, adding that though Tehran and Cairo distanced from each other during the past three decades, they could help the Isamic Ummah's international role through fresh ties. Salehi noted that the Egyptian nation will determine its destiny through a democratic process after their great revolution last year. Egyptian students for their part welcomed the expansion of cultural and scientific relations with Iran.
