India's foreign policy crossroads

INDIA is so big and Indians so self-absorbed, that traditionally, foreign policy issues rarely figure in an election. It is not that Indians behave like the ostrich. Their freedom movement waded them through two World Wars. The Jawaharlal Nehru era saw India playing a proactive role in world affairs and in the Non-Alignment Movement. That has continued, more or less.
