U.S. hikers in Iran: From vacation to years in prison

In July 2009, American friends Shane Bauer, Josh Fattal and Sarah Shourd set out on an adventurous vacation. They had been pals for a long time. Bauer and Shourd, boyfriend and girlfriend and in their late 20s, had been living for about a year in the Syrian capital of Damascus, where he was working as a freelance journalist and she studied Arabic and taught English.
