A view of Egypt: the Arab Spring up close

The heart of Egypt's protests, which continue to take place today, is Tahrir Square. Tahrir anchors central Cairo, a neighbourhood with clothing shops, book vendors, restaurants and cafes. Nearby are government institutions, including the hulking, tan administrative building known as the Mogamma, which has been described as a "Kafkaesque monument to bureaucracy."
