Iran, Kenya ink MoU on expansion of mutual ties
Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir Abdullahian said on Thursday that based on an agreement singed by Iran and Kenya the two sides would expands mutual cooperation in various fields. Based on the MoU, the two sides agreed to broaden cooperation on tourism, launch direct flights between the two capitals, ease trade exchanges and explore investment opportunities in both countries, Abdullahian said. According to the Information and Press Bureau of the ministry of foreign affairs, Abdullahian made the remarks in a meeting with Kenyan Foreign Minister Thuita Mwangi . In the meeting, the Iranian envoy, highlighted regional and international developments and expressed the hope to witness further promotion of political, economic and cultural ties and cooperation between the two countries. Abdullahian also submitted to Kenyan foreign minister a written message from President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad inviting his Kenyan counterpart to attend Non-Aligned Movement summit in Iran and study avenues for broadening of bilateral ties and cooperation. He also conveyed the greetings of Iran’s Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi to his Kenyan counterpart and called for expansion of relations between the two sides. The Kenyan foreign minister, for his part, lauded the significant status of NAM among developing states. He also described the two sides relations as friendly and voiced his readiness to attend the sixth Iran-Kenya Joint Economic Commission meeting.
