In January, Sen. John McCain is expected to take over as chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee. It is a remarkable return to semi-power for the 78-year-old former Republican presidential nominee, giving him an opportunity to convene hearings, demand answers from senior officials and hold up nominees, if necessary, to achieve his goal of turning around American foreign policy.
